Introducing the Viva Palestine Beanie Range

Introducing the Viva Palestine Beanie Range

We at Viva Palestine are thrilled to be introducing our new beanie range.

Kids Watermelon Pompom Beanie

In keeping with our subtle symbol representation of solidarity with Palestine we have designed this beanie with an embroidered logo of a watermelon.

Why the watermelon?

Following the 1967 war, when Israel seized control of the West Bank, Gaza Strip and annexed East Jerusalem, the government banned the Palestinian flag in the occupied territories.

Although the flag has not always been banned by law, the watermelon caught on as a symbol of resistance. The fruit is grown across Palestine from Jenin to Gaza and the fruit shares the same colours of the Palestinian flag. It is used to protest against Israel’s suppression of Palestinian flags and identity. Unfortunately, the silencing of Palestinian solidarity has become more commonplace in the western world highlighting the double standards for freedom of expression and rights. The watermelon emoji is a way to avoid shadow banning, or a form of censorship when posting on social media in relation to current events in Gaza.

Recent news has also validated the double standards in the western world with many kids facing difficulties when trying to show solidarity with Palestine at schools. We believe this design will give both children and parents the confidence of showing support whilst being protected against those insecure individuals and institutions that want to enforce their narratives and agendas.

About the watermelon Pompom Beanie

The pompom beanies come in one size suitable for children from ages 4 to 12. The watermelon logo is a high quality embroidery. They cost £10.00 from which all the profits will be donated to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRSC) working effortlessly on the ground in Gaza. As part of our ethos of transparency and accountability we have included the cost of manufacturing the beanies on the product page. This amounts to £6 per beanie meaning £4 from each sale will be donated to the PRCS. We, therefore, urge our customers to consider the cost of the item as £6 only with the rest of their money being donated to a reputable Palestinian cause. This allows our customers to wear a symbol displaying solidarity with Palestine and at the same time providing financial support for a Palestinian cause.

Please support us by ordering this as a gift for your young, loved ones and educating them on the importance of the brand as an alternative to the named brands we pay premiums for and have no transparency on where their profits go.

Adults Filasteen Beanie

We have also introduced a high quality adults Filasteen beanie. The embroidered Filasteen logo written in Arabic in the colours of the Palestinian flag provides a subtle way of displaying solidarity with Palestine.

The cost of a beanie is £12 with all profits being donated to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRSC) working effortlessly on the ground in Gaza. As part of our ethos of transparency and accountability we have included the cost of manufacturing the beanies on the product page. This amounts to £6 per beanie meaning £6 from each sale will be donated to the PRCS. We, therefore, urge our customers to consider the cost of the item as £6 only with the rest of their money being donated to a reputable Palestinian cause. This allows our customers to wear a symbol displaying solidarity with Palestine and at the same time providing financial support for a Palestinian cause.

With many of us, myself included opting to pay premium prices for branded products it is time for us to reassess our brand loyalties. I appreciate the challenges we face as consumers trying to find out which brands support occupation and violation of human rights. But I am yet to see evidence of any of the major designer or sports brands standing for or supporting Palestine. So, I urge all people reading this to support Viva Palestine or any other companies with a similar ethos. With you support we aim to make these products more popular so that other brands take heed and realise that whitewashing their ethical and sustainable credentials will no longer be tolerated.
